Dando um trato no visual

Enquanto uns se amarram em customizar personagens em jogos (o meu caso, por exemplo), outros - vulgo preguiçosos - preferem PAGAR para personalizar avatares.

SOCOM Confrontation Update

August 31st, 2008 by hiphper

This is for a friend of mine, Wes, who is chomping at the proverbial bit to dig his teeth into the new SOCOM. This new clip should be a quick hit to get him through at least a month of waiting.

As part of Sony Gamers’ Day 08 Allen Goode, the lead designer on SOCOM Confrontation, takes viewers through a look at some of the features that will make up the new game. Some, like your favourite pair of old socks, will be well known and more than welcome returns. Others will inject a bit of novelty and excitement into the latest in this franchise, though it will only be clear upon release whether or not it’s a successful continuation or simply a hack job that’s looking to cash in on what’s been a good run up until this point. Personally I really think it’ll be the former, they’ve done well thus far keeping the scene fresh.

Second part after the cut…

Tekkyuuman

August 31st, 2008 by hiphper

Tekkyuuman is a new release by prolific Japanese developer Ikiki, famous for a number of controversial games featuring ninjas, bloodbath and outrageous violence. Usually with all three elements at the same time.

In this game, you must make your way towards the green spiky object and smash it with the flail. Use the control key to swing your weapon and tap the left shift key to jump. A wall jump can also be executed by pressing the same shift key when scaling up walls.

Red switches can be activated either by touch or hitting them with your flail. An extra life is awarded after every boss fight. [zip file of Ikiki’s games]

New MGO videos show how gameplay is like

August 31st, 2008 by hiphper

Enjoying your access to the Metal Gear Online beta? I hope you are because the best we other mere mortals can do is drool at the sight of MGO videos. I’ve got a couple of new ones today. Watch them and be reminded of how excruciating it is to wait for June 12, the game’s release date.

Take this first one, for example. You’ll see (or not see) how difficult it can be to find Snake as an average grunt on the battlefield. If you’re expecting to plainly see a cleverly-camouflaged Snake hiding in one corner during multiplayer, then get ready for a rude awakening. Snake would be presented as a translucent specter that you can barely see.

I’m still on the fence on how this would work first-hand because frankly, I would rather see (or not see) camouflage so good that we actually wouldn’t notice Snake hiding instead of just making the character almost invisible because that’s what the camo indicator says.

This video shows us how shooting other people in the face works in MGO. It’s good to see that unlike other multiplayer games, MGO allows players to engage in close-quarters combat (or CQC) instead of shooting each other with high-powered rifles at pointblank range, which rather looks ridiculous.

The buzz around Metal Gear Solid 4 and MGO may have been dulled somewhat by the release of a certain Grand Theft Auto IV, but rest assured that once the GTA hype is over, we’d all be itching for Snake by June.

Japanese hardware sales, May 12 - May 18: Déjà vu edition

August 31st, 2008 by hiphper

Filed under: Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Business

PSP. Wii. DS Lite. PS3. PS2. Xbox 360. Much like the enigmatic sequence of numbers from “Lost”, we can’t seem to escape this series of console eponyms. With only minor variations to the lineup (mainly a position switch between Nintendo systems), that’s been the pecking order for console sales in Japan for nearly two months. Sure, you could rationalize that fact by pointing out that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is still selling like gold-plated Pocky, or that everyone in Japan already owns three or four DS Lites, or that most games released on the 360 don’t really appeal to Japanese gamers — but we know there’s something more sinister at work.

Could this seemingly innocuous pattern actually herald the movements of our discreet mechanical overlords, as revealed in “The Matrix”? Could Japan be stuck in some kind of temporal rift, causing them to repeat one week over and over again? Or could it be simpler than that — perhaps the nation of Japan is trying to send us, the trackers of their sales charts, some sort of code. Let’s see… “Pallid Westerners, Don’t Listen to the Putrid Production of Xanadu.” No, that can’t be it — everyone already knows to avoid that nightmare-on-rollerskates. What about “Porpoises and Whales Delight in Leaving Private Pictures in our Xeroxes.” No, sea creatures aren’t known for acts of office vulgarity.

Oh, wait a minute, we think we’ve cracked it: “Please, We Don’t Like Purchasing or Playing Xbox 360s.” Well of course you don’t! We didn’t need to go all Robert Langdon to glean that valuable piece of information!

- PSP: 70,536 19,348 (21.53%)
- Wii: 41,572 25,736 (38.24%)
- DS Lite: 34,905 16,323 (31.86%)
- PS3: 7,701 353 (4.38%)
- PS2: 7,022 422 (5.92%)
- Xbox 360: 1,474 196 (13.56%)

News: Man saves lives playing AMERICA’S ARMY

August 30th, 2008 by hiphper

Ok, “saves lives” may be a bit of an exaggeration, but what is true is that a North Carolina man assisted passengers from an SUV he saw flip on a highway, using skills he learned playing America’s Army. Paxton Galvanek, who pulled people from vehicle after it flipped, said he learned about controlling bleeding from playing section two of the “medic” class training in America’s Army, a game developed by the Army as a recruitment tool.

Download now, or forever hold your points: Potential delisted Xbox Live Arcade titles

August 30th, 2008 by hiphper

Filed under: Arcade, Microsoft Xbox 360

Our Xbox-toting brethren at 360 Fanboy recently came across a list of Xbox Live Arcade titles which may be up for expungement in Microsoft’s spring cleaning of their online store. The list (available after the break) includes all titles that fulfill the first and second criteria of Microsoft’s new standards — that is, they’ve been available for six months, and currently hold a 65 percent or lower average score on Metacritic. A steady conversion rate (the number of people who purchase the complete title after downloading the demo, a figure only Microsoft has access to) is the only thing standing between these games and a date with the delete button — so if you’ve been holding out on downloading Shrek-N-Roll, you may want to pick it up in an expedient manner.
